On July 26, 2022, a staff competition—a mock trial—was held on the 18th floor of Zhejiang Hangtianxin Law Firm. This mock trial was hosted by the firm's trade union and co-organized by the youth league branch, aiming to assess and train the professional skills of young lawyers and inspire their youthful vitality. The activity mainly showcased the case acceptance abilities of young lawyers, cultivating their skills in receiving and accepting cases. This is of great significance in improving their comprehensive abilities and further enhancing the firm's service level. The event specially invited the firm's director, Yu Yuehai; deputy director, He Changming; director of the public interest center, Wang Hongyao; chairman of the trade union, Wang Ting; and director of the supervisory committee, Huang Xiaohua, to attend and serve as judges.
A total of two teams participated in this activity. The first team consisted of Wang Juntao (trainee) lawyer, Xue Linwei (trainee) lawyer, and Xiao Changcun (trainee) from our firm. The second team consisted of Fu Ping lawyer, Wei Zhonghui (trainee) lawyer, and Rong Jinglei (trainee) lawyer from our firm. Based on simulated cases, both teams demonstrated various difficulties and challenges encountered by lawyers during case acceptance. Playing the role of the receiving lawyer, they listened to the client's statement, understood the case details, analyzed the legal risks and difficulties, and provided professional advice and case outcome predictions. Playing the role of the client, they demonstrated through role-playing the expectations of professional expertise from professionals when encountering disputes.
After both teams completed the simulated case acceptance process, the judges provided insightful comments on each team member's performance. Director Yu Yuehai, while affirming the abilities of the team members, pointed out that case acceptance is just one aspect; the real work lies in daily practice. Lawyers establish themselves through professionalism; they must strive to improve their professional skills. When receiving case consultations, they must grasp the legal facts, legal entities, and legal relationships, and on this basis, provide analysis and strategies, enabling clients to trust the lawyer's professionalism. Deputy Director He Changming commented on the legal issues in the case, pointing out and analyzing the difficult legal issues. Deputy Director Wang Hongyao emphasized that during case acceptance, it's important to listen and consider the client's emotions, ensuring the client feels it's more than just a legal consultation. Deputy Director Wang Ting provided feedback on the details of each team member's performance, emphasizing that details determine success or failure—even a small action like handing over a business card should not be overlooked. Deputy Director Huang Xiaohua, after affirming the team members' performance, pointed out the importance of appropriately guiding the conversation to improve communication efficiency.
This activity is a crucial part of our firm's training for young lawyers. Case acceptance tests the comprehensive abilities of lawyers. Improving the case acceptance abilities of young lawyers helps them prevent and mitigate professional risks and further improves the firm's service level. The wonderful performances of the team members and the judges' insightful comments laid a solid foundation for future events.
