This morning, at our invitation, Mr. Wen Jishun, chief economist and senior cost engineer of Zhejiang Kejia Engineering Consulting Co., Ltd., gave a lecture on several issues concerning documentary evidence in engineering contract disputes. More than 30 lawyers and trainee lawyers from our firm and more than ten brother firms in Hangzhou attended the lecture.

From the perspective of an appraiser, Mr. Wen shared with the lawyers several aspects, including the logical relationship of the three properties of documentary evidence, typical cases of losing lawsuits due to improper grasp of the purpose of proof of documentary evidence, and the introduction of risk points that agents should pay attention to regarding the validity of visa sheets with objections. His lecture helped everyone understand some basic concepts of engineering cost appraisal related to legal work and accurately analyzed some common mistakes made by lawyers in handling construction engineering cases involving cost appraisal from the perspective of an appraiser. He provided excellent professional advice, and the attending lawyers all expressed their great gains from this lecture.

After Mr. Wen's sharing, Director Yu Yuehai summarized the lecture. Drawing on his experience as chief arbitrator, Director Yu explained several cases he had arbitrated, sharing with the lawyers that lawyers not only need to possess professional legal knowledge but also need to understand and master the relevant basic knowledge of the fields involved in the cases they handle. Only in this way can they avoid making common mistakes when handling cases and more comprehensively and objectively protect the legitimate rights and interests of their clients.
