Hangtianxin Public Interest Legal Service Center

Hangzhou Hangtianxin Public Interest Legal Service Center (hereinafter referred to as the Public Interest Center) was established on April 7, 2016. It is a non-profit organization specializing in legal aid services, approved by the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice and registered by the Hangzhou Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau, and established by Zhejiang Hangtianxin Law Firm. Recommended by the All-China Lawyers Association, the Public Interest Center became the implementation unit of the "Central Special Lottery Public Welfare Fund Legal Aid Project" in Hangzhou, approved by the China Legal Aid Foundation. This project provides free legal aid to farmers, the disabled, the elderly, women, and minors from economically disadvantaged families, benefiting millions of people by expanding the scope of cases and lowering the threshold for assistance. It truly embodies the purpose and goal of protecting people's livelihood, enjoying fairness, and promoting harmony.

The daily work of the Public Interest Center mainly includes legal consultation, legal publicity, and agency work for civil, criminal, and administrative assistance cases. The Public Interest Center has established a liaison platform with the Arbitration Commission for Labor Disputes in Gongshu District and Xihu District as a pilot project. In addition to regularly arranging volunteer lawyers to be on duty at the Labor Arbitration Commission to answer questions for workers who come for consultation, some labor dispute cases that meet the conditions for legal aid will also be entrusted to the Public Interest Center for agency.

In 2016, the Public Interest Center handled more than 100 legal aid cases for 544 beneficiaries who met the assistance conditions. Among the beneficiaries, there were 2 women, 1 elderly person, 1 disabled person, 1 minor, and 539 farmers. In 2016, the Public Interest Center helped nearly 500 beneficiaries recover more than 10 million yuan in economic losses, achieving good social results. On March 5, 2017, at the "2017 China Legal Profession Public Welfare Forum and the First Legal Profession Public Welfare List" launching ceremony held at the Keyuan Law School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Public Interest Center won the "Best Public Welfare Innovation Award" for its outstanding public welfare achievements in 2016.

Since its independent development, the Public Interest Center has achieved a lot. As the implementation unit of the "China Welfare Lottery Fund" project, the Public Interest Center will manage the valuable funds provided by the state, strictly control the quality of case handling, and ensure that every beneficiary can benefit from the Public Interest Center. In 2017, the Public Interest Center aims to increase the number of assistance cases to over 200, further develop public welfare legal publicity and legal consultation activities, strengthen business skills training for volunteer lawyers, actively expand contacts with labor departments, public security stations, women's federations, and disability federations throughout the city, and expand the influence of the Public Interest Center so that more people know that they can seek help from the Public Interest Center when they are in difficulty.
